Tesla Model 3 alternative for 15,000 euros is a hit: But this e-car costs only 7,000 euros

BYD makes headlines again: The former battery manufacturer presented the Qin L EV on 24 March, a real innovation. A starting date for Europe or Germany is still pending, but the electric limousine caused a sensation quickly, not only because of its technology but above all because of its price. Already within the first week of sales, the new e-sedan sold more than 10,000 copies.

The new Qin L starts in the home country at 119,800 yuan (1,290 euros). Even the top amenities cost only 139,800 yuan (17,750 euros). Now, as is the case with e-cars in China, the prices are well below those paid in Europe. But the price is also a real announcement for the Chinese market. A Tesla Model 3, once the most successful e-car in China, costs 235,500 yuan (30,000 euros) there.

The Tesla Model 3 is twice as expensive as the new BYD! And those who believed that the e-cars were technically not comparable to each other are inclined. BYD promises a range of more than 530 kilometres according to the Chinese CLTC standard. When charging, the battery jumps to 30 percent, and then 80 percent should be reached within 24 minutes.

Inside, there is BYD’s new DiLink 100 Smart Cockpit with a floating, 15.6-inch touch screen, a head-up display, and an 8.8-inch driver display. Even a heating grinding combination (temperature adjustable from -6 to +50 degrees Celsius), BYD is installed.

The electric car is autonomously on the go thanks to “God’s Eye C” technology. This piece summarises BYD functions for autonomous driving, even at motorway speed. It consists of five radar units, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and twelve cameras. Whether and when the electric car will come to Germany is not yet known.

This BYD costs less than 7,000 euros.

The BYD Seagull has good prospects for a start in Europe. The e-car is roughly comparable to the VW ID.3, which originally cost just over 10,000 euros, and is now offered in China for less than 7,000 euros. As a Dolphin Surf, it could be released in Europe in the autumn. Further reports from the field of electromobility are reading at this point.
