iOS 18.4 makes Apple CarPlay smarter: These 3 features are a real upgrade

With Apple CarPlay, the iPhone can be conveniently connected to the vehicle to display functions such as navigation or calls directly on the car display. Apple is trying to continuously improve the features to make the operation easier while driving. The update to iOS 18.4 adds three new features for the service.

As reported by the 9to5Mac fan blog, a third series of app icons has been added to vehicles with particularly large displays. This will create more space for apps, which should make the ride more pleasant during the ride. However, it is not yet known how large the screen in your vehicle must be at least for the feature.

Integration of sports apps

From iOS 18.4 sports apps can also be integrated into CarPlay. For this purpose, Apple would have provided the app developers with an interface that displays sports results directly in the CarPlay interface. However, it may take even longer for third-party providers to equip their apps with the new feature. The in-house Apple Sports app is not available in Germany after more than a year after the release.

The possibility of setting a favourite navigation app is particularly pleasing for EU users. This allows you to select Google Maps instead of Apple maps, so that Siri automatically uses the selected app for navigation for voice commands.

The new features were discovered during the beta phase and are now available in the final version of the firmware. With iOS 18.4 there are other features, so Siri with Apple Intelligence, for example, gets significant improvements. Android Auto is also to become more powerful thanks to Google’s plans.
